He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Matthew 28:6

The other day I spent some time with my cousin, her husband, and their baby boy and I thought again about our New Beginnings theme. Their family is such a perfect example of God’s second chances. Their son will grow up with them and have so many opportunities and blessings that he wouldn’t have had otherwise– a totally new life. My cousins are starting a family and having a new life, of no sleep, much less time to themselves and for one another, and much more laundry… (All you parents know!), that they might never have gotten to experience. Why is this such a special New Beginning? They have adopted their son. He is 100% part of their family, just as if he had been born into it. What a new beginning!

New Beginnings are a natural part of springtime – new leaves and flowers, the grass turning green, and the birth of lambs and other animals. It seems to be the perfect time to celebrate Easter, Jesus rising from the dead. Jesus’ resurrection means new life for all of us – the ultimate new beginning! Without His death, His taking all our wrongdoing and rebellion upon Himself, and His sacrifice, we wouldn’t have life. Without His resurrection we wouldn’t have any hope. Whatever happiness we achieved in this life would be it. Because of Him we can now be called children of God. Even though He was innocent, He took our punishment. We are now heirs with Him. Just as an adopted child has the same rights and benefits as a natural born child to be a part of the family and to receive an inheritance, so we now are welcomed into the family of God. Just as parents are with their child as he grows, to love, nurture, and protect, our God cares for us, His children. Even though we receive many bumps and bruises in this difficult life, when our limited time on this Earth is done, we will have all of eternity to spend with Him. What an awesome new beginning it is for us to be adopted into God’s family! What an eternal future of hope that we now have because of His resurrection!

Happy New Beginnings to you all this Easter season!

In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. John 14: 2-3
